European airliner manufacturer Airbus on Thursday announced a loss of 1.36 billion euros ($1.48 billion) in 2019 - sliding from profits worth 3 billion euros the previous year - despite selling a record number of commercial aircraft.

The reported losses were revealed shortly after the multinational announced it was buying Canadian plane and train maker Bombardier's remaining stake in Airbus’ A220 passenger jet program along with the government of the Canadian state of Quebec.
