"Vice," a critical look at the life of former US Vice President Dick Cheney, emerged Thursday as the big favorite in the 76th Golden Globes, picking up six nominations.

Other films that will get a lot of attention at the Jan. 6 awards gala include "The Favourite," "Green Book" and "A Star is Born" with five nominations each; and "BlacKkKlansman" and "Mary Poppins Returns," which will contend in four different categories.

"Roma," the latest from Mexico's Alfonso Cuaron, received three nominations.

"A Star is Born," "Black Panther," "BlacKkKlansman," "If Beale Street Could Talk" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" will vie for the honors in Best Motion Picture - Drama.

The nominees for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy are "Green Book," "Mary Poppins Returns," "The Favourite," "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Vice."

The battle in the Best Director - Motion Picture category will be among Bradley Cooper ("A Star Is Born"), Alfonso Cuaron ("Roma"), Peter Farrelly ("Green Book"), Spike Lee ("BlacKkKlansman") and Adam McKay ("Vice").

Competing for The Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama will be Glenn Close ("The Wife"), Lady Gaga ("A Star is Born"), Nicole Kidman ("Destroyer"), Melissa McCarthy ("Can You Ever Forgive Me?") and Rosamund Pike ("A Private War").

Bradley Cooper ("A Star is Born"), Willem Dafoe ("At Eternity's Gate"), Lucas Hedges ("Boy Erased"), Rami Malek ("Bohemian Rhapsody") and John David Washington ("BlacKkKlansman") are the contenders in the category of Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama.

Nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy are: Emily Blunt ("Mary Poppins Returns"), Olivia Colman ("The Favourite"), Elsie Fisher ("Eighth Grade"), Charlize Theron ("Tully") and Constance Wu ("Crazy Rich Asians").

Christian Bale ("Vice"), Lin-Manuel Miranda ("Mary Poppins Returns"), Viggo Mortensen ("Green Book"), Robert Redford ("The Old Man & the Gun") and John C. Reilly ("Stan and Ollie") are up for the award in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy category.

Two cast-members from "The Favourite" - Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz - are competing in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category along with Amy Adams ("Vice"), Claire Foy ("First Man") and Regina King ("If Beale Street Could Talk").

Mahershala Ali ("Green Book"), Timothee Chalamet ("Beautiful Boy"), Adam Driver ("BlacKkKlansman"), Richard E. Grant ("Can You Ever Forgive Me?") and Sam Rockwell ("Vice") were nominated as Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
