Mexican-born Dreamer Argeo Cruz fulfilled nearly all of the requirements for participating this Saturday in the United States Olympic Marathon Trials, but his lack of American citizenship has proved to be an insurmountable barrier.

A graduate and assistant cross-country coach at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida, Cruz is a beneficiary of a US immigration policy known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), under which individuals who were brought to the US unlawfully as children are shielded from deportation and eligible for a work permit.
