Deaths from a new coronavirus registered the largest one-day increase in China’s Hubei province, which has now killed more than 1,300 people, health authorities said Thursday.

Hubei provincial health commission said COVID-19 had killed 1,310 people, 242 of which died Wednesday alone. This represents, by a large margin, the highest number of casualties recorded in a single day in Hubei, where the previous highest daily spike sat Feb. 10 at 103. EFE-EPA
