At least three people have been found dead and six others are still missing after a tourist boat sank in eastern Malaysia, while the coast guard rescued 22 people, local officials said.

Among those found alive were 20 Chinese tourists and two crew members, according to the latest report issued Sunday night by the Malaysian Maritime department, which lowered the number of those rescued in an earlier announcement.

The search and rescue operation was resumed Monday with the aim of finding the missing five Chinese citizens and the remaining one crew member, across a 400 nautical mile search radius.

The boat sailed Saturday morning from Kota Kinabalu on a two-hour trip to Mengalum Island, but it sank on the way.
