The president of the United States on Friday signed into law a more than $2 trillion bill aimed at providing aid to struggling Americans and mitigating the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic as the number of confirmed cases in the country surpassed 100,000.

The US has 101,657 people infected with Covid-19, followed by Italy with 86,498 and China - where the outbreak began - with 81,897, according to an independent tally by Johns Hopkins University.
