Spanish Formula One star driver Fernando Alonso was released on Wednesday from the Catalunya General Hospital, more than three days after suffering an accident during F1 testing at Barcelona's Montmelo circuit, motorsport.com reported.

Earlier in the day, Alonso had received visits from his father, Jose Luis Alonso, his manager Luis Garcia Abad, and McLaren racing director Eric Boullier.

Alonso was hospitalized with a concussion on Sunday after he crashed against the circuit's wall at turn 3, right before the lunchtime break of the final day of testing.

The Spanish driver spent the last three nights in the Barcelona hospital.

The two-time world champion is expected to go home to Oviedo and miss the pre-season's final test session, although his McLaren team has yet to officially confirm this information.
