Manchester City announced Saturday the signing of midfielder Douglas Luiz from Brazil's Vasco Da Gama for five seasons.
"The 19-year old Brazilian U20 international midfielder completed his medical in Manchester this week and put pen to paper on a five-year deal," the Premier League club said in a statement on its official Web site.
Brazilian media outlets speculated that City might decide to loan Luiz to Spain's Girona for a season.
"We are pleased to welcome Douglas," Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain said, calling the Brazilian an "exciting" player with great potential.
Douglas made his debut with the Vasco da Gama first team last season, scoring five goals in 39 games.
Manchester City will be competing in the next edition of the UEFA Champions League after finishing third in the Premier League last season.
