Real Sociedad announced Monday the extension of Brazilian striker Willian Jose's contract by an additional two years through June 2024.
The Brazil international, 26, joined the La Liga side from Maldonado in the 2016/2017 season and scored 14 goals, followed by 15 goals in the 2017/2018 season.
"This contract extension will tie the striker to the club for two more years. The previous deal was set to expire on June 30, 2022," Real Sociedad said in a statement on its official website.
Willian Jose said he was "really happy" about the new contract and the club's confidence in him, as it builds on the previous one-year contract extension signed in Sept. 2017.
The striker was also confident that his team would do well in Friday's Basque derby against inter-city rival Athletic Bilbao, saying "No one wants to lose the derbies. It's a very difficult game, you have to be prepared."
