Technicians from a Russian technology startup on Friday demonstrated the features of its newest electric air taxi prototype, as documented by an epa-efe reporter present.

The eVTOL (electrical vertical take-off and landing) vehicle developed by the company Bartini is set to allow passengers to hover in the air up to 900 meters above ground and could potentially revolutionize the private transport sector.

With a flight range of 150 kilometers (93 miles), an autonomy of about 30 minutes of flight time and a speed that can reach 300 kilometers an hour, the flying taxi takes off vertically like a helicopter thanks to four propellers that can later rotate perpendicularly to the vehicle's frame to fly horizontally once airborne.

Bartini plans to complete the air taxi's development and present it on the commercial market by 2020.

During the demonstration, the prototype crashed into the snow shortly after takeoff, suggesting some aspects might still need some fine-tuning before the vehicle's market launch.
