The eldest daughter of Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte will run for the country’s vice presidency in next year's national election, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) announced Saturday.

“Vice presidential candidate Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio of the Lakas CMD is hereby adopted by the PFP as its candidate for vice president, and hereby indorses her candidacy as the running mate of the PFP’s official candidate for president of the Philippines Senator Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in the 9 May 2022 elections,” the PFP’s resolution said.

"Bongbong" Marcos is the son of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

On Tuesday, Duterte withdrew her candidacy for re-election as mayor of Davao, which she has held since 2016, quit her party Hugpong ng Pagbabago, and on Thursday joined Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas CMD).

After much speculation, on Saturday she replaced Lyle Uy as Lakas-CMD's candidate for vice president.
